There's a huge tax on enterprise software: the configuration tax. It's what you pay integrators to wire up the features you'll actually use, and turn off the thousand you didn't ask for.
It's not the platform vendor's fault, exactly. To serve thousands of companies, a platform has to build features for every quirk of every customer. By the time it reaches you, it does everything — it's an index of what the market wants. Which is why implementing it takes a year: most of the work is subtraction and (necessarily convoluted) plumbing.
